Alan Ekland Profile

I have gained valuable committed experience over the years, and decided now is the time to share my learnings. I believe I am in a privilege position and should make the best of it, sharing my knowledge and skills, adding value to everything I do to my highest ability.

I strive to provide an exceptional service where you communicate directly with the designer, me. Building a lasting business relationship to help advance and exceed desired goals, without the added expenses involved with a design studio or agency.

1997-2014
My enthusiasm of direct marketing and fundraising began whilst working as designer for a studio in London. Here my skill set excelled, I learnt the importance of quality in everything I create. From a simple update to a business card to a book promoting a local authority, or a collection envelope to a direct response fundraising mailing. Everything originated was the best it could be, often going above expectation of the clients to create beautiful designs and artwork above and beyond industry standards.

Not only was I in a job which I loved, but designing for some amazing charities helping to make a difference to so many lives, gave me a sense of direction in life. I could now see that we live in a time where there is so much unjust in the world, but there are many caring people who want to help make a change for the better. With an aim of moving us to a world where there is no war, no cruelty towards all living creatures, no starving, eliminating poverty and disease.

Clients included:

Charities and not-for-profit organisations
Sightsavers, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA Foundation), The Children’s Trust, World Villages for Children, Childlife, WaterAid, The Haemophilia Society, Save the Children, NSPCC, Barnardo’s, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Crisis, Breast Cancer Care, Help the Hospices, Wood Green, The Animals Charity, The Big Issue Foundation and World Development Movement.

Blue chip
Atlas Editions, Compton & Woodhouse, Flying Flowers, Gardening Direct, Tower Hamlets Local Authority, Blooms of Bressingham, Pizza Hut, Kew Gardens, Barclays Stockbrokers, City Financial and Mitre House Publishing.

1994-1997
Working on some exciting projects as freelance graphic designer:

  • 3D illustration and animation to produce stunning effects for introductions, opening and closing title sequences with in-line graphics for the music video industry.
  • Designer/layout artist for a national newspaper.
  • A broad spectrum of design for print, including local and national advertising media.

During this time, I gained an award for my 3D illustrations which appeared in a trade magazine. This lead to writing an article for the same publication.

1991-1994
Designing for an independent print company, working side-by-side with in-house printers. Often drafted-in to help with the print finishing, which grew to occasionally print minding on a two colour press under the watchful eye of the Senior Machine Minder. This was invaluable experience and gave me a solid foundation of the commercial print industry.

My main role was artwork and designing from concept to plate for a diverse range of projects: business stationery, leaflets, poster, forms, folders.

1990-1991
After studying design and graduating from Southwark College of Art and Design I started freelancing. Designing for small local companies encompassing branding, stationery, leaflets, posters, vehicle livery design, signage.
